Betadine gargle is an antiseptic and disinfectant solution used to treat oral infections, such as sore throats, mouth ulcers, and gum swelling. It contains a 2% povidone-iodine solution and is used as a mouthwash to kill germs that cause mouth infections. Your dentist may also provide this oral rinse during or after dental procedures.
Betadine gargle should not be swallowed and is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Use the dosing cup provided with the package and avoid contact with your eyes and silver jewellery. Measure the appropriate amount of Betadine gargle as directed by your doctor or chemist. Gargle with the solution for 30 seconds to 1 minute, covering your entire mouth. After gargling, spit the solution into the washbasin and refrain from eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes to ensure the effectiveness of the gargle.
Macberry gargle, Betakind gargle, and Puradine gargle are some other formulations that contain a povidone-iodine solution. Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after a few days of using this gargle or if they worsen.
